Se realizaron determinaciones de extracto acuoso en hojas y palos de yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis saint hilaire) con el objeto de conocer si existen diferencias entre los mismos y buscar una relación entre esta variable y el contenido de hojas. La técnica de análisis utilizada para la determinación del extracto acuoso fue la de la AOAC con ciertas modificaciones. Se realizaron determinaciones en 8 muestras provenientes de diferentes puntos de la Provincia de Misiones (Argentina), y con diferentes grados de estacionamiento. Se encontró que existen grandes diferencias de valores de extracto acuoso en las hojas y los palos y que existe una relación dada por una ecuación lineal de primer orden. Sin embargo esta ecuación no puede ser utilizada como único método para estimar el contenido de palos debido a los relativamente elevados límites de confianza de la estimación (± 4,62% para estimar el extracto acuoso y ± 0,135 para estimar la fracción de palos).
