This paper reports the results obtained from Peschieria australis (Müell) Miers. Samples were taken from the Guaraní Department and from around Posadas City in the Province of Misiones (Argentina). Chemical extractions were made using the maceration method and the extracts’ antibacterial activity, was determined by the Kirby-Bauer difussion method.

En la “medicina popular” las infecciones, enfermedades e intoxicaciones humanas y animales son resueltas con tratamientos variados traducidos en éxitos y fracasos rotundos. Con esta sabiduría, se fijaron objetivos, entre otros, trabajar con extractos vegetales para encontrar principios activos que conduzcan a proponer su introducción reglamentaria en nuevos fármacos. Las muestras de Peschieria australis (Müell.) Miers, (n.v) “Horquetero” o «Sapiranguí» fueron tomadas del Dpto.Guaraní (Misiones) y alrededores de Posadas Misiones, Argentina). Una vez transportadas al laboratorio, se realizaron las extracciones de los productos activos, por los métodos de maceración, decocción, Soxhlet. Se ensayó la actividad antibacteriana con la técnica de difusión de Kirby-Bauer, con 15 ul del extracto vegetal.
