Summary: | Two tobaceous minerals from Neuquén, Argentina, with different alteration degrees were used in this work. Both minerals were chemically modified to evaluate the adsorption capacity of CO2 and CH4 gases. The samples were milled passing 200 mesh (<74 mm), and were processed to < 2 mm size fraction to evaluate the influence of the clay components. The materials were treated with 3N and 6N HCl solutions at boiling temperature during 3 hours. The samples before and after treatment were characterised by chemical analysis and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Equilibrium adsorption was measured using a standard volumetric apparatus. Samples before and after treatments were outgassed at 100°C for 12 h prior to measurement. Gas adsorption was measured at 25°C and 1 kg cm-2 The adsorption capacity of the gases were analysed in correlation with structural changes originated in different treatment conditions.
