Supposing its industrial culture is possible, thinnings could be used as papermaking raw materials. With this objective, C. trichotoma wood density, chemical composition and wood structure were studied. While old wood is in general very dense, sapwood could be adequate for these uses. C. trichotoma cellulose and extractives content are superior and hemicelluloses quantity is lower than in regional Eucalyptus species. Wood structure shows higher fibers, similar vessel elements, and lower parenchyma cells content. These results confirm a possible papermaking use of thinnings before heartwood formation.
