description It is important to know the prevalence of risk factors for atherosclerosis in our region. We studied 498 subjects in Argentina North East, living in Posadas City, 219 males and 279 females, aged 20 or more, “apparently healthy”. We determined: a) the diet intake; b) the most frequent values and percentages of: BMI (Body Mass Index), Systolic Blood Pressure (PS), Dyastolic Blood Pressure (PD), Total Cholesterol (CT), Triglycerides (TG), HDL Cholesterol (CHDL), LDL Cholesterol (CLDL) and c) prevalence of principal risk factors for coronary atherosclerosis according to sex, age and instruction level. The diet of these 102 subjects of both sexes, contained: 3059 ± 1143 Kcal, 53 ± 10% carbohydrates, 30 ± 9% lipids, 17 ± 4% proteins, 487 ± 237 mg/day cholesterol, P/S 1.02 ± 0.44, Key Index 31.6 ± 10.8.

Es importante conocer la prevalencia de los factores de riesgo para la aterosclerosis en la región donde se vive porque puede haber diferencias interregionales por múltiples causas que no hacen recomendable adoptar valores de otras regiones. Se estudiaron 498 sujetos del Nordeste argentino que habitaban en la ciudad de Posadas (provincia de Misiones), 219 varones y 279 mujeres, todos de 20 años y más, “aparentemente sanos”. La dieta alimentaria en 102 individuos contenía: 3.059 ± 1.143 Calorías, 53 ± 10% Hidratos de Carbono, 30 ± 9% Lípidos, 17 ± 4% Proteínas, 487 ± 237 mg/día Colesterol, P/S 1.02 ± 0.44, Indice de Keys 31.6 ± 10.8. Los sujetos con menores recursos económicos consumían una dieta más rica en hidratos de carbono y lípidos y más pobre en fibras que los de mayor nivel de recursos.
