It has won a prominent position in the Brazilian livestock scenario. However there are scarcely any studies developed for the estimation of variance components, heritability, genetic correlations, etc. The aim of the present study was to estimate genetic parameters for growth traits in Santa Gertrudis cattle, for a roundup in São Paulo state. The traits analyzed were the weights observed (RW) at birth (BW) (n=1061), 120 (RW120) (n=428), 205 (RW205) (n=934), 365 (RW365) (n=695) and at 550 days of age (RW550) (n=549), as well as pedigree data of 3852 animals. The single-trait Animal Model using the software MTDFREML included as fixed effects sex, year, month, handling and dam age class, and as aleatory the direct, maternal genetic effects and of permanent environmental effect of dams. La Raza Santa Gertrudis presente en el Brasil desde la década del 50, ha conseguido actualmente una posición destacada en el escenario de la ganadería de carne brasilera; sin embargo, son muy escasos los estudios realizados con el objeto de estimar componentes de varianza, heredabilidades, correlaciones genéticas, etc. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue estimar parámetros genéticos para caraterísticas de crecimiento en la raza Santa Gertrudis, para un rodeo localizado en la región de Araraquara en el Estado de San Pablo, Brasil. Las características analizadas fueron los pesos reales al nacimiento (PN) (n=1061), a los 120 (PR120) (n=428), 205 (PR205) (n=934), 365 (PR365) (n=695) y 550 días de edad (PR550) (n=549), e informaciones de pedigrí de 3852 animales.
