| description | The objective of this work was to establish the reference intervals of sodium and potassium electrolytes in serum and urine in clinically healthy subjects. In daily practice, results are compared with the reference intervals provided by other authors, hence the usefulness and importance of establishing own ranges of reference for each analite appears as evident. The target population was selected by direct sampling. 124 healthy volunteers previously interviewed were evaluated; they were adults of both sexes, between 19 and 59 years of age, without dietary restrictions, and from different areas of Posadas, Misiones. Venous blood was drawn in the morning under fasting conditions. All the individuals collected 24 hour urine. The samples and controls were processed by direct potenciometry with selective electrode for ions (ISE– Easy Lyte–Medica). The following reference intervals are proposed; serum sodium (135–146 mMol/l), serum potassium (3.4–5.0 mMol/l), urinary sodium (68–330 mMol/24 h) and urinary potassium (19–76 mMol/24 h). |

El objetivo de este trabajo fue establecer los intervalos de referencia de los electrolitos sodio y potasio en suero y orina en sujetos clínicamente sanos. En la práctica diaria los resultados se comparan con los intervalos de referencia provistos por otros autores, por lo que resulta evidente la utilidad e importancia de establecer rangos de referencia propios para cada analito. La población de referencia fue seleccionada por muestreo directo. Se evaluaron 124 voluntarios sanos previamente entrevistados, adultos de ambos sexos, entre 19 y 59 años de edad, sin restricción dietética, de distintas zonas de la ciudad de Posadas, Misiones. Al grupo en estudio, se le extrajo una muestra matinal de sangre venosa en ayunas. Todos los individuos recolectaron orina de 24 h. Las muestras y los controles fueron procesadas por potenciometría directa con electrodo selectivo para iones (ISE– Easy Lyte–Médica).
