Description
Summary:Cardiovascular disease is the first cause of death in Misiones and Argentina. A longitudinal study of major modifiable risk factors, metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular risk to 10 years, intra–individual variations of these parameters and their probable causes were performed. 121 civil servants who completed four controls and without medical records for coronary heart disease, diabetes or stroke were assessed. The frequency of subjects (p<0.01) with one or more modifiable major risk factors, metabolic syndrome and high risk of Framinghan caused by the appearance of 10% of coronary events and diabetes increased significantly. Smoking (19.8%) and increased triglyceride (26.2%) showed no significant variation, but blood pressure (44,3%) and abdominal obesity (37.7%) did increase significantly (p<0.01in relation to age increase and body mass index, respectively. These findings justify the appearance of diabetes and morbidity or mortality by cardiovascular disease.
