Description
Summary:Argentina exports about 95% of its tea production, around 95% of its production being concentrated in the province of Misiones. Black tea in mostly exported in bulk and a tea product commonly known as BT (Black Tea). The purpose of this work was to study the chemical quality of black tea and BT product produced in Misiones and for exportation. The possibility of distinguishing them chemically was also studied. For this purpose, a total of 213 sample testing protocols admitedd at the Industry General Direction of the Province of Misiones were used in the period February 1999 - June 2009. The results indicate that chemical quality of these products has been maintained over time and can be distinguished chemically. Their differentiation taking into account only the variables caffeine and crude fiber is suggested. Contents of aqueous extract outweigh the requirements of the Argentine Food Code for black tea.
