The validation and application of the numerical models that are being developed by our group intend to contribute to the expansion of the metallurgy knowledge, since their are few studies in the literature about the prevailing conditions in which the columnar to equiaxial transition (TCE) is produced when the conditions of solidification are horizontal, one-directional and in two different ways of solidification, and when the fonts of solidification of two surace facing each other meet. The present study aimed to solidify horizontally the hypereutectic alloy Zn-10%Al(ZA10) alloy, when heat is predominantly extraction from both extremes of the samples. This gives six interphases of solidification moving in opposite directions (three moving from the right end and the other three from the left): two [liquid/(solid+liquid)], interfaces namely [L/(S/L)] or IE interphases, two [(eutectic+solid+liquid)/solid] interphases, namely [(E+L)/S] interphases or IS. La predicción de las estructuras de solidificación de aleaciones binarias es de importancia para avanzar en el conocimiento del propio campo y de los materiales en general. La validación y aplicación de los modelos númericos que se vienen desarrollando contribuyen a ampliar el conocimiento y sus aplicaciones en el área de la metalurgia, sin embargo, existen pocos estudios en la literatura acerca de las condiciones en las que se produce la transición de estructura columnar a equiaxial (TCE) en condiciones de solidificación unidireccional horizontal con dos sentidos de solidificación, cuando los frentes de solidificación de dos superficies enfrentadas se encuentran. El presente estudio tiene como objetivo solidificar direccionalmente en forma horizontal la aleación hipereutéctica Zn-10%Al(ZA10), con extracción calórica predominante desde ambos extremos de las probetas, lo cual da lugar a seis interfases de solidificación moviendose en direcciones contrarias (tres se mueven desde el extremo izquierdo y las otras tres desde el extremo derecho): dos interfases son líquidas [líquido/(sólido+líquido)], interfases [L/(S/L)] O IE y dos interfaces son sólidas, [(eutéctico+sólido+líquido)/sólido], llamadas interfases [(E+L)/S] O IS.
